At present, we are reading the Sutta Nipata’s “Sutra of Shariputra.” Representing the spirit of Mahayana (“large vehicle”), the disciple Shariputra does not want to merely imitate the outer behavior of the Buddha but wants to know how the Buddha is able to display wisdom and compassion. In his response we hear in detail the inner activity of self-examination that is far more effective than going through the motions of monastic life.
Prior Buddhism study is not required. You may join us at any time.
